Virginia and Jacob got married at the absolutely gorgeous Collingwood Museum and Library. Their ceremony was held in front of the Potomac River and it was truly beautiful! The “Bourbon and Barbeque” theme was unique, and the barbeque was delicious. This classy soiree was fun yet elegant!
It all started that lovely Friday evening, May 31st, 2013, when Jacob proposed to Virginia. First things first, though, and a discussion with Virginia’s parents to ask for their blessing was in order! Arriving mid-afternoon, Jacob and Virginia met with her parents to discuss the upcoming question; little did they know that the discussion would take until 9 PM that evening!
The evening’s eating choices now limited, and their appetites growing, both Jacob and Virginia set their eyes on the local 7-11. With eggrolls, sandwiches, and drinks in hand, Virginia led Jacob to her favorite spot by the banks on the parkway where they could see the evening’s starry sky. As time passed, their meals having been devoured, and sitting together enjoying the brilliant display blessed to them on a cloudy night, Jacob and Virginia enjoyed the romantic moment.
But soon, as the evening waned and sleep crept in, Jacob advised that they should head back to his car for transport home. Virginia’s frustration apparent and with an exasperated sigh she made her way by his side back to the car; she had thought surely he would propose this evening!! Not all was lost as Jacob, on the other hand, had a funny suspicion that she thought the time and place for proposing would be down near the banks of the parkway and had suspended that notion; after all, she shouldn’t know the time and place to propose as that would ruin the surprise, no?
As they approached his car, Jacob headed away from her towards the driver’s side. Virginia, even more upset now as she had expected him to open the door for her, became more flustered! With a huff, Virginia opened the passenger door, slammed it shut, and crossed her arms; with a straight forward look she thought, “Ohhh HOW COULD HE?! I THOUGHT TONIGHT WAS THE NIGHT!!!” With her distracted, Jacob opened his door and said to Virginia, “Hey babe, would you please get out of the car and come around to my side for a second?”
Already thoroughly irritated, Virginia said “fine!” and hopped out of the car. While her back was turned, Jacob quickly reached into the hidden compartment where he stashed the box containing the beautiful ring meant for the love of his life, Virginia, and closed the car door. Keeping the box secure behind his back, Jacob stood attentive as Virginia approached him, her arms still crossed and with a serious look on her face.
The darkness of the street provided ample covering for Jacob to stretch his arms around Virginia, looking playfully into her eyes, while manipulating the box behind her neck. Virginia stood there, saying “Yes?” Jacob fumbled the first few words, “Well.. uh…” but he soon gained confidence after a brief moment of prayer and continued, “… there is a question I would like to ask you.”
“What?” Virginia exclaimed, as Jacob brought his arms from around her back and positioned them in between them. With her still looking into his eyes, Jacob got down on one knee and asked, “Virginia, will you marry me?”
