Zheng and Yan’s Wedding at Belmont Country Club in Northern Virginia

Four years and nine months ago, Zheng and Yan met for the first time when they were attending the international student orientation at the University in Buffalo. It was such a happy coincidence that they both came from the same city in China – Nanjing, so they soon became best friends and always talked about anything in their past and present life until one day Zheng decided to talk about their future life with Yan. He asked Yan to become his girlfriend.

They have been inseparable from that point on, and they also did so many “crazy” things together such as driving towards the sun just to see the sunset until there was no way to go and they reached the Niagara River among others. What they found is that no matter what they did, or where they were going … life was perfect as long as they were with each other.

For almost a year and half, Zheng needed to work away from Yan and as anyone knows, being away from those you love is never easy. They met only one or two times a month. There was one time Yan drove 8 hours alone from DC to Buffalo to gave Zheng a surprise.

On May 28, Zheng and Yan hit the road to Virginia Beach to enjoy a vacation together. Zheng prepared a small “gift” for Yan. At night, Zheng asked Yan to marry him with that “gift”. The rest, as they say, is history!
