Hong Kong is approximately 9,000 miles from the Bristow Manor Golf Club.  That’s a long way, right?  Well, that’s exactly how far Katherine and YuKwan’s family traveled to see them get married!  And I don’t think it could have been a more beautiful day for it!  Bristow Manor provided the perfect backdrop for Katherine and YuKwan as they said their “I Do’s” with it’s old world feel inside and a touch of southern charm with it’s elegant balcony and columns.

The day started off in the Bridal suite of Bristow Manor with Katherine putting her dress on.  And I have to say, it was gorgeous!!  Mindy and I really do love our job so we’re constantly watching wedding related shows such as:  Say Yes To The Dress and My Fair Wedding with David Tuterra (I love that man!).  So, to get to the point — out of all the wedding dresses we’ve seen, we couldn’t have picked a more amazing dress for Katherine — it suited her perfectly!!

YuKwan was one of the most mellow, calm grooms I’ve ever seen.   When we were doing images before the ceremony I asked him to think of Katherine and a smile immediately flickered across his face.  From day one, we’ve never had a doubt that these two are very much in love.   Every time Katherine is around YuKwan she has a smile and is usually laughing.  YuKwan impressed us even more by making sure we had enough water to drink on the wedding day — a great characteristic of a good husband.

One of our favorite parts of the wedding day was the tea ceremony where both the bride and groom kneel in front of their parents and close family and serve them tea. This is a way to express their gratitude. In front of their parents, it is a practice for the married couple to say, “Thank you for bringing us up. Now we are getting married. We owe it all to you.” The parents will usually drink a small portion of the tea and then give them a red envelope, which symbolizes good luck.   I can only imagine how long that flight was to Dulles Airport!  We loved so much that Katherine and YuKwan took time out to express their thanks to their family.

The reception was also held at Bristow Manor where the main room was decorated in simple yet elegant hues of purple and white.  From the ceiling hung twinkle lights and lavender Chinese lanterns.   The center pieces were these gorgeous flowers submerged in liquid dyed purple.  Very eye-catching!!  We think Katherine did an excellent job of picking out all the details for her big day — it all came together so beautifully.

It was a perfect day. Sun shining. Birds singing. Blue skies. A perfect day for a wedding — Tim and Rebecca’s Wedding! The day started off at Cherrydale Methodist Church where Tim and Rebecca got ready for a day packed full of emotion, filled with the love of friends and family — one of the most momentous  days of their lives.

Rebecca looked absolutely stunning in her strapless ball gown with hidden pick-ups. The dazzling brooch she added to the side only added more elegance and class to the ensemble. Her hair was wound into a classic updo, and topped with a long graceful veil that completed her stylish, couture look. All in all, Rebecca looked beautiful. Tim and his guys also looked very suave from the polished patent leather shoes to the nifty cuff links that each sported.

The wedding event started with trumpets. Tim entered with his guys. All stood. Eyes turned. Rebecca smiled. Tim tried not to cry but really, how could you not with a bride that beautiful? We felt our hearts beat a little faster as we watched Tim look at Rebecca and then overcome with emotion, he had to look away.  Rebecca, trying to preserve her make-up, tried to not  actually look at Tim,  so she looked away to keep from tearing up. Did I mention we love emotional weddings?  How we love to photograph moments like these and you will see them highlighted in the slideshow montage that we custom designed to tell the special story of this day.

After the ceremony, everyone proceeded to Fort Myer’s Officer’s Club which has a very nice ambiance — warm golden hues were cast in the background all night. Our favorite part of the night had to be the dances. The mother-son and the father-daughter dances always tug at my heart but just photographing Rebecca and her father dancing was fun. Especially when the song starts off serious then morphs into a fun, get-up-and-go kind of tune like “I knew the bride when she used to Rock and Roll”.

. . . “And I could not ask for more” . . . these are the lyrics that Mike and Nikki danced their first dance as man and wife under a canopy of stars, their closest friends and family surrounding them. This song perfectly encompassed Mike and Nikki’s Wedding day — a beautiful day to start off the lives of two of the most awesome people!

Saturday, May 29th started off at Merriweather Manor, the location for both the ceremony and reception. Merriweather Manor, is a kewl local venue; a Georgian colonial built in 1770, that sits on top of a cozy enclave within the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. From the front porch, the elevation provides a spectacular view, sweeping over 400 acres across the Potomac River valley.

Nikki and her bridesmaids, Maggie, Elizabeth, Sandy and Jen, all arrived looking radiant in their 3/4 length berry dresses. One of the many things we love about Nikki is that she’s a shoe fanatic — as we are also! So as soon we saw Nikki’s Badgley Mischka white satin sling-back shoes, we were in love and knew that this was going to be a wedding with style and class.

As wedding photographers, one of our favorites moments of  the day  would have to be the moment the groom sees his bride for the first time. Nikki and Mike chose to see each other before the actual ceremony and we think the images show why this is a smart new tradition for unique brides.  Mindy and I both agree that Mike’s reaction was one of the best we’ve ever seen! As Nikki tapped him on the shoulder, he turned to see his soon-to-be wife. A series of emotions then appeared on Mike’s face as he looked her over from head to toe. Mike’s mouth dropped in what we feel could only accurately be described as awe.   Next he smiled, and that smile soon turned into a laugh. Nikki turned to us with a knowing look and smiled, a big beautiful smile that, to us, looked like pure happiness.  Her smile seemed to say to us “THIS is why I’m marrying this man…”

We especially love unique traditions during the ceremony;  including a sand ceremony was poignant  –  this wasn’t just for Mike and Nikki, but also for Mike’s two daughters; Ashley, Alex; and son,  Brennan. Sand was poured, vows were said, tears were shed and a kiss was shared to bring two people together, never to part.   The rush of emotions that travel across the faces of a bride and groom immediately after the kiss is often a pinnacle at a wedding — and Nikki’s face proved to be no exception.  Immediately after being introduced,   we documented with our cameras,  emotions transforming from one to another… the euphoria of the moment, the tears of gratitude for finding Mike and the realization that Mike is now….home.

After a warm welcome from the bride and groom,  guests entered the reception area to be met first thing with the sweet smell  of freshly cut roses. The centerpieces were gorgeous!! Vibrant colors were everywhere. Glasses in  festive  hues decorated the tables. Speeches were given by the best man, Mike’s brother, which included some very touching moments throughout their childhood — from sibling rivalry to the birth of their children, and yes, we did tear up a little!

Before meeting Mike, Nikki used to be a nanny. What started off as a business relationship soon turned into a strong friendship between Nikki and former employer, LaDawn who gave the second speech. Elizabeth, Nikki’s bridesmaid and LaDawn’s daughter, who Nikki used be a nanny to, sang the song for Nikki and Mike’s first dance. And if I’m being honest, I have to say I liked it better than the original version by Sara Evans — it was so incredibly beautiful!

To Mike and Nikki, thank you for allowing us to have the honor of photographing your wedding. Not only did we have a blast, but we felt right at home, just like part of the family.  We feel incredibly blessed to be included on this most joyous of days and are grateful for your friendship.

May 22nd brought about a wedding — Megan and Larry’s Wedding!  We, the ladies at Ever After Visuals, had long anticipated this day!  We expected the day to be fun, but Megan and Larry’s Wedding was so much more than that . . .

The day started off at 950 North Stafford Street, the location for the Hilton in Arlington, Virginia.  It is truly a unique place to get married with lots of hidden areas to get some awesome images in!  I had so much fun with Megan and her bridesmaids, while Mindy had a blast with Larry and his groomsmen.

It’s amazing how sometimes you can just tell that two people are a perfect fit for each other.  When we first met Megan and Larry, as they came in and chatted with us about their wedding plans, we just knew.   Now, they’re a family.  As the vows were said and rings were exchanged, we quietly document the elation that spread across faces of the two families that were joining together, becoming one.

There are certain moments that you see as a wedding photographer that take your breath away, and that never cease to amaze me.  After meeting countless couples and photographing many, many weddings I am still amazed.  After the wedding, everyone was immediately ushered to the back room of the church.  Megan and Larry didn’t have to say a word.  They simply put their noses together and looked into each others eyes.  If you had to pick one moment in  time that could encapsulate the love of this couple, it was then…

The reception was also held at the Hilton in Arlington.  The night started off with Irish melodies floating through the air.  As the new couple entered, they did their first dance.  Has anyone here seen “The Princess Bride”?  I have to say that it’s an awesome movie, and if you had been there at Megan and Larry’s Wedding, you would have appreciated it even more as the song the chose to dance to was from that movie.  Later, the Priest surprised us all when he sang an old Irish love song especially for Megan and Larry.  Next came the dances.  Both Mindy and myself caught ourselves tearing up during the father-daughter dance which ended with Megan’s dad saying, “I love you so very much” — how can you not feel a little tug in your heart when you hear that?!?!

The rest of the night was filled with love, laughter, dancing and hula hoops . . . yes, hula hoops!  Needless to say, Megan and Larry, your wedding rocked!!  Thank you for allowing us to be a part of it.  We wish you all the happiness possible!

April 24th brought a bright and sunny day for Maria and Joseph’s Wedding.  The bridesmaids were adorned in elegant black and the groomsmen looked very dapper in their tuxs.   Maria looked exquisite in her strapless, elegantly detailed wedding dress.  One of our favorite parts of the wedding was when Joseph’s  smile spread across his face as he saw Maria walking down the aisle.  The past, the present and the future all collided in that one moment as the vows were exchanged, the rings put on and a kiss to seal the promise  that would forever intertwine this couple was shared.

The ceremony has held at Ida Lee Park in Lessburg, Virginia.  It’s a truly beautiful location with lush, green grass and an outdoor gazebo that’s perfect for images!

Maria and Joseph,  only had eyes for each other the whole night.  From the time they danced into the reception area to the time they walked down a sparkler-lit getaway, it was very clear that these two are in love.

Yoga.  Many of you know yoga to be any of the methods or disciplines prescribed, especially a series of postures and breathing exercises practiced to achieve control of the body and mind, tranquility, etc. (yes, I did copy that from Dictionary.com).  But to Sunee and Spencer, Yoga is so much more.  As Sunee, with a few tears, described in her hand-written vows, Yoga is what brought her and Spencer together — what allowed them to overlook their pasts and move forward to a beautiful, bright future ahead.  The past and the future met on February 14th, 2010 . . . Sunee and Spencer’s big day!

I don’t think we’ve ever seen a couple more relaxed. Sunee was uniquely elegant, draped in a beautiful gown of lace, hand-made by a family friend in Thailand.  It was so gorgeous and we think it suited Sunee perfectly!  Spencer was also very suave with his tie that matched Sunee’s red patent leather shoes and his tie that matched the bridesmaids icy blue dresses during the ceremony.  One of the many highlights of the night was a nightclub located at the top floor of the Gaylord National Hotel called Pose.  This place was amazing and made a great background for Sunee and Spencer’s images (as you can see).

The ceremony was held at Oxon Hill Manor which sits high on a hill with a picturesque view of the Potomac River from the garden area. The grounds include formal English gardens, rose bushes surrounding a reflecting pool, and a large brick patio for outdoor entertaining. Featured inside are exquisitely appointed rooms with wood floors, crystal chandeliers, and fireplaces.

As Sunee tearfully made her way down the aisle, escorted by her father, the look on Spencer’s face was priceless. Hand-written vows are our favorite from Sunee’s “In any moment, you are where I want to be to Spencer’s passionate witty “I offer my devotion, admiration and passion so that our union will strengthen and we may share the intrinsic happiness that exists between us.  I also offer my ability to lift heavy objects and to reach high places.”  Tears and laughter intermingled — in fact, that is a fitting description of the intimate evening shared by all — as rings were exchanged and then a kiss to seal it all.

The reception can only be described as warm and close.

At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I’m alive

‘Can’t take my eyes off of you’ by Lauryn Hill was Sunee and Spencer’s first dance. And I have to say, they did an awesome job with the choreography. Cheers and applause erupted from all over the ballroom. Toasts were given by both Spencer’s groomsmen and also Sunee’s bridesmaids, Ilse and Kim.

We were thrilled to see Ilse, Sunee’s maid of honor, as we had the honor of photographing Seth and Ilse’s Wedding a few years back.  Seth and Ilse will soon be having their first child so it was such a wonderful thing to see such glowing happiness of love.

The toasts were such an emotional part of the day — the ability to see friends and family that have known Spencer and Sunee for their entire lives come together to join them for this one day that will define the rest of their lives made it truly an occasion.

Spencer and Sunee, we wish you the most happiness ever!  We were not only honored to be chosen to capture your wedding day but feel honored to have also gotten to know you as individuals as well.

Image #1 – BJ and Kristin were so in love.  We loved the genuine expression here, not to mention the beautiful lighting.

Image #2 – Have you ever wondered what look your father would give you if it was the last time he would be seeing you as his little girl?  We think this image of David and Ester’s says it all.

Image #3 – Keith and Erica wanted very dramatic images, which is why we fell in love with this particular image.  We love that it was so non-traditional, and the color gave it a very unique feel.

Image #4- This is the first time Jonathan, the groom, saw Carly, his bride, on their wedding day.  We think the look he has on his face expresses how much he’s looking forward to spending forever with her.

Image #5 – Jean Pierre and Eneida had a very emotional wedding!  We LOVE sunsets!  And this one with the gorgeous blue sky just had to be included!

Image #6 – We love using reflection as a way to make an image unique, or just to enhance the natural beauty of a bride.  It really makes this image from Justin and Melissa’s wedding stand out as different!

Image #7 – This is our favorite image from this wedding, hands-down.  So much emotion!  We thought this image told the story of what everyone felt on Dan and Karen’s Wedding day.

Image #8 – Don’t you just love the lighting of Travis and Liz’s reception venue, the Hilton in Silver Spring, MD?  We certainly did!  Add a gorgeous couple and bam!  you’ve got a fabulous image.

Image #9 – Marty and Sharon wanted unique images,  so that’s what we provided.  This was actually shot in the lobby of the hotel they were getting ready at.  We fell in love with this image as soon as we saw it on the back of our camera’s LCDs.

Image #10 – Chip and Mila had an absolutely gorgeous wedding!  The theme was cherry blossoms.  From the beginning of the day to the last dance, their wedding was beautiful and romantic.  It’s not hard to see why we love this image as it conveys the feel of richness and sophistication — just like their special day!

Image #11 – So, just in case you didn’t know, this wedding photography business is run by two women, and women love sunsets!  So we couldn’t help falling in love with this  image of one of our favorite couples, Van and Noelle! A sunset is truly unique — you will never see the same exact sunset twice.  Just like our our cool clients!

Image #12 – There’s always those times in a wedding that you just have to stop and laugh.  This was Bob and Priscilla’s first kiss as a married couple and they couldn’t tear their lips from each other.  So the officiant decided to give Bob, the groom, a little tap on the shoulder.  This moment as captured is truly priceless!

Image #13 – Ryan’s expression when he first saw Ashley, his bride, walking down the aisle, was truly precious.  We think he was awestruck!

Ever After Visuals is a mother-daughter team who specialize in wedding photography — we are wedding photojournalist, who capture moments that tell the love story of our brides and grooms. October 24, 2009 — what a perfect day for a wedding! We arrived at the Church early Saturday morning to capture some awesome images of Ester getting ready. We absolutely loved Ester’s dress — it was so unique! This was not any ordinary wedding dress. This gorgeous satin dress with a cathedral train had dashes of tea rose pink on the entire length of the train and in a band framed with crystal beading. The bridesmaid’s dresses were also very lovely being a fitted navy blue strapless gown with a fuschia sash that draped down the back. Gorgeous wedding dresses like this one make it easy to be a wedding photographer.

The ceremony was very beautiful. One of our favorite parts was the surprise vow renewal that Ester did for her parents! It was so incredibly sweet that there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. David and Ester are truly a couple in love who couldn’t stop gazing into each other’s eyes. It was such a pleasure to be able to capture the life-long bonds between family and to see the creation of a new one.

Next came the wedding reception! The entire Grand Ballroom was decorated in beautiful Fuschia and Navy tablecloths with equally elegant lighting. We know one thing for sure, and that’s that David and Ester’s family loves them a great deal! Ester’s brother was constantly surprising everyone with his smooth moves. First when the bridal party was anounced, next he sang for his sister as a toast and last as a random dance in which Ester also surprised everyone and joined in. And David and his Mom brought some emotion to the moment with the mother-son dance and ending with the entire family in a huddle on the dance floor. What a blast everything was!

David and Ester — we want to thank you for being such an awesome couple! Your wedding day was fun and you made it so easy for us being such a photogenic pair! The love and respect between both of you is clearly evident in the way you treat each other. We hope you enjoy a long and happy life together.

We love to photograph weddings — even when it is raining!
Rain, rain go away; come again another day was all we could think of as we set off to shoot Jonathan and Carly’s wedding. Upon arriving at the church we found everyone to be in such good mood, in a flurry of movement for upcoming preparations despite the weather. But the radiant love between Jonathan and Carly was so strong that not even the rain could survive it. The joyous feeling was felt by all. After the ceremony, the sun came out and the party started!

The reception was held at the Hartwood House
. This beautiful, antique home which made a perfect backdrop for the awesome images of Jonathan and Carly. Also, major kudos to all those who sang during the ceremony and reception!

And to Jonathan and Carly — congratulations! You two are so very fortunate to have such loving family members surrounding you, and to have each other! We know your days will be filled with happiness and laughter! October 10, 2009 was just the beginning!

Ashley and Ryan . . . your wedding was so filled with emotion!! We love wedding photography when we are able to photograph in a photojournalist style and the images captured show real emotion. in Wedding photography in a photojournalist style is not a new trend, but we look for moments that allow us to tell the love stories of our couples with vivid colors, timeless black and white images, and gorgeous fashion and style.

Ryan and Ashley’s wedding is just the type of wedding that a true wedding photographer – or should I say wedding photojournalist — longs for. Beauty and real emotion was everywhere because this couple has it.

When we first met Ryan and Ashley, we automatically had a connection with them. This couple is one of the most kind, generous couples we’ve met. And what a wedding they had! As we first arrived at the bride’s home, an electric buzz drifted through the air. Ashley and her bridesmaids were getting ready upstairs, so it wasn’t long before there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. And although the tears fell fast and quick, they were all tears of joy. Ashley and Ryan’s family were so incredibly happy for them that they couldn’t not show it!

As for Ryan and his groomsmen. Well, most of them he had grown up with. He described his groomsmen not as friends but as family, and we had to agree.

The ceremony was filled with emotion which started with Ryan and Ashley but ended with Mr. and Mrs Miller. The couple were so happy that they danced down the aisle.

Ryan and Ashley, it has been an absolute honor to stand there amongst your friends and your family and watch you two become ‘man and wife’. We know that your marriage and friendship with each other will, like the circle of your wedding rings suggest, continue on forever.

What we like most about wedding photography is when we get to capture emotion. What better job to be able to do that than as a wedding photographer specializing in wedding photojournalism. A wedding photojournalist captures the peak of emotions as they happen, telling a story.

We provide wedding photography primarily in Virginia and in DC, but when Marty and Sharon contacted us, we were happy to go to Maryland for this most awesome wedding.

When we heard the words of this song, we immediately thought of Sharon and Marty — it feels like them. I know their sentiments are also expressed in “Umbrella” as that song has special meaning for them…how to choose? Well, there were so many images we loved from their wedding on Saturday, we had to use them both!

It’s a wonderous thing for us when we meet a couple like Marty and Sharon, who seriously have it together — their love is real, tested and true. They are all about all the right things. The love of family was clearly evident throughout this lovely day as the loved ones of these two came together to celebrate with them.

The beach theme and laid back reception kept the feelings that resonate with the couple — lots of laughter, hugs, and even a few tears were seen throughout the day — and most especially through Marty’s speech, which had us laughing one minute and crying the next.

Sharon and Marty, we hope you are having a blast on your honeymoon! Wishing you love and laughter for years to come, we thank you for allowing us the privilege of capturing your most special day.

This can be a challenge for a VA wedding photographer who only works in Virginia. Day After Sessions are some of our favorite though because typically our couple is at their most relaxed and have the opportunity to make fantastic images. Jean Pierre is soon to be a pilot. When he asked us if we could incorporate some images with a plane, we were thrilled to have this unique opportunity.

It was blue skies and sunshine all day with Jean Pierre and Eneida for their ‘Day After’ Session. We watched as Jean Pierre held Eneida while the sun made it’s way to the horizon line and the moon made it’s appearance, bringing with it the most beautiful sunset among the twilight. We know that as more days go by, Jean Pierre and Eneida’s love will only keep shining brighter and brighter. Leave Jean Pierre and Eneida some awesome comments about their awesome images!

Primarily, we provide our wedding photography to venues located in Washington, DC so if you know anyone interested in dc wedding photography, send them our way. But we want to focus on couples in Virginia, those who really desire their wedding photographer to be a wedding photojournalist and live in VA. That’s how Ashley and Ryan found us — they viewed our images online and they liked our style right away. We are always looking for a good fit as we want to meet our client’s expectations for the type of wedding photos they want to keep.

The first thing we came to understand about Ashley and Ryan: They are seriously in love — they can’t look at each other, without it ending in a kiss! I think it’s because they have known each other for such a long time. These two were neighbors and friends from the time they were 14 — and it shows. We dare anyone to take a look at their session and not agree with us!
